The Skyline luge, because there is no minimum experience required, the carts have a beginner track, and you can ride with a child on the scenic track. It is also the easiest to combine with something else, since the gondola, the restaurant and the gravity park are all on the same hill.

Book rafting, canopy tours and any scenic flight — they run fixed departures with limited seats and sell out in summer. The luge, zorbing and the multi-activity adventure park normally take walk-ups, but pre-booking online is usually cheaper and guarantees a slot in school holidays.

Many are, but almost all carry a minimum age, height or weight. Luge, zorbing and the farm-style attractions are the most family-flexible. Grade 5 rafting over Tutea Falls, bungy-style rides and the gravity mountain-bike park all have real minimums and are not suitable for young children — check the operator's page before you book.

Rain barely affects rafting, zorbing and the hot pools, and it actively improves the geothermal parks by making the steam more visible. If you want to be indoors, the entertainment complex, the indoor climbing gym, the cinema and the spas are the reliable wet-weather options.
